On November 12, 2019, the Elion Foundation entered into a strategic partnership with the China Association for SOS Children’s Village to further develop the Green Economy Innovation Base in the Kubuqi Desert, which has been built by Elion Group (ELION) under Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ecological concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” The two sides will work together to provide hands-on ecological education and host collaborative projects such as building a public forest base for Chinese SOS Children’s Villages, with a view to increasing children’s awareness of environment protection and harmonious co-existence between nature and mankind, and helping them become future leaders in ecological protection.

Thanks to three decades of commitment to desertification control in the Kubuqi Desert, the seventh largest desert in China, ELION, a leading Chinese provider of eco-industry services, has managed to afforest over 6,000 km2 of land in the desert and lift 102,000 local residents out of poverty. In December 2018, the Elion Eco-restoration Demonstration Area in the Kubuqi Desert was recognized by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China as a national Green Economy Innovation Base.

Launched in 1984, the China Association for SOS Children’s Village is a non-profit organization for orphans administered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China (MOCA), and has been operating as a member of the SOS Children’s Village International. Over the past 30 years or so, the association has established 10 SOS Children’s Villages across the country in Tianjin, Yantai, Qiqihar, Nanchang, Kaifeng, Chengdu, Putian, Urumqi, Lhasa and Beijing, providing a shelter for 3,138 children as of now.

Registered with the MOCA in 2011, the Elion Foundation is a private foundation initiated by ELION. In 2018, it was recognized by the MOCA as a 3A charitable organization. To provide quality education for the children of farmers and herdsmen in Kubuqi, ELION donated RMB 120 million in 2010 to build the Elion Oriental School in Dugui Tala Town, a modern boarding school offering nine-year compulsory education, and since then, has awarded RMB 1 million every year in grants and scholarships to outstanding teachers and students. Today, the school has become a bright beacon for education in the Kubuqi Desert.
